Top 3 Myths About Carbs

Carbs have always been an enemy for those who want to lose weight. The headline for carbohydrates changes every other week. One day it is all healthy and good to have it, another day it is all bad and any consumption of it will lead to bad health let alone gain in weight. With so much information floating on the print and digital media out there that it is hard to decipher what to believe.

Let’s talk about the Top 3 myths about carbs:

  • Carbs make you gain weight.

Carbohydrates are part of a healthy diet and constitute a greater good part of our diet. Weight gain is not due to carbs alone, but overconsumption of any food in general causes weight gain. To avoid any such overconsumption try to have complex food or whole grain over refined grains. Whole grains have fiber in them which is healthy and helps maintain our bowel movement in a smooth manner. Whole wheat bread, quinoa, brown rice, and whole grain pasta are some of the foods that must be consumed in a manner that is required while processed grains like chips, white bread, or pastries should be at a hand distance. Weight loss is best achieved by limiting our calorie intake and having more green leafy vegetables.

  • Low-carb diets are the best way to lose weight.

There is no research to prove that intaking low-carb diets may result in loss of weight. It usually happens because of calorie restriction and loss of body water. It is not a long-term solution, once the body starts intaking carbohydrates it will again gain body weight. Carbohydrate is the fundamental source of fuel for our body. Once, you stop taking carbohydrate your body jump into ketosis, where it will burn fats to produce ketones and use them as a source of energy. Completely restricting the intake of carbohydrates will cater to more risk than it will benefit you.

  • Carbs make you tired and feel sluggish

There is a common saying that if you have carbs in your diet then you may feel lazy. It is one of the most common misconceptions that one goes around. It is for this particular reason that many people have given up their carbohydrate intake in their meals. We all know that carbohydrate is the most important diet as they act as fuel to our body which is required in our day-to-day activity. Therefore it is completely useless to stop having carbohydrates. What we need is to properly proportionate our diet.

It is very easy to fall into such a trap especially when one is very concerned regarding weight loss. It is advisable to get proper consultation regarding a diet plan. Initially avoiding carbs may result in weight loss but you will gain it back once you lose your diet plan. So it is not a permanent solution.
