What's The Difference between Curd vs Yogurt?

Curd and Yogurt are often confused to be the same thing but are not. Yogurt is good for losing weight while Curd is good for skin and hair.

Curd or Dahi is made by adding some edible acidic substance or vinegar or lemon and even curd itself. All you need is to put the above-mentioned substance in the warm milk and leave it over 5 to 6 hours to turn it into curd. While on the other hand Yogurt is made with the help of the bacterial fermentation of milk. To make Yogurt one needs to have Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophiles bacteria with them from yogurt culture.

 Difference between Curd and Yogurt

Curd varies from house to house and as it does not contain a sufficient amount of bacteria, it cannot be considered a probiotic. Curd has lactic acid Bactria that makes the milk into curd. While Yogurt has Lactobacillus Bulgaris bacterium and streptococcus thermophilus which makes it essentially a yogurt. And since yogurt is an industrial product, it comes in various flavors and tastes.

Health benefits of yogurt:

Yogurt contains pantothenic acid or Vitamin B5, protein, potassium, and molybdenum. Yogurt has a high content of protein and it is highly useful in the weight loss process. Potassium content in Yogurt makes it useful for those who are dealing with blood pressure. Yogurt being probiotic helps in keeping the gut healthy, and a healthy gut means overall good health and improved digestion. Also, the person who has an allergy with lactose can consume yogurt as it is not allergic.

Health benefits of curd:

Curd also helps in improving digestion as nutrients in curd can easily be absorbed during digestion. It is also seen that curd is beneficial in curing H. Pylori infections - which are a major cause of peptic ulcers. Good bacteria can be useful in the immune system.

It is a rich source of calcium and phosphorous which when included in the diet can help your bones and teeth. Curd is also used as a beauty product. Curd when mixed with gram flour and lime juice, can be used as a face pack. It softens the skin and leaves a glow behind on the skin. Homemade Dahi or Curd especially the one which is made with full cream may not be useful in weight loss. In some Indian households, malai or cream is added addition in the curd for flavors. Well, this does not mean that it is not to be consumed by those who prefer weight loss. It is just that it might not be useful in that endeavor.
