10 Tips To Prevent Digestive Issues Naturally

Digestive tract issues are commonplace in the world today. Whether it’s a bloated stomach, nausea, diarrhea, heartburn, constipation, etc, we have all experienced it one time or another and can testify to how inconveniencing, embarrassing, and uncomfortable they can make one feel, right?

Although it's a widespread occurrence, it shouldn’t be considered normal. It can be avoided or promoted by our actions or inactions. There are several medical treatments for these conditions.

However, there’s a better alternative:

Simple lifestyle changes and natural remedies can alleviate the situation. We’ve listed ten simple natural tips that would help you avoid the discomfort and embarrassment that comes with digestive tract issues.

Real food is the best food

In the present climate, junk food has become the choice for many who are looking for a quick fix to end hunger. Junk food has become a cosy alternative to real food. Scientific studies have shown that these foods are filled with harmful substances such as food additives, excess salts, trans fats, saturated fats, artificial sweeteners, and many more.

These cause severe and in some cases, grave harm to the digestive gut. It could cause gut inflammation (which results in leaky gut), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and many more. The surest way to avoid this, is to go the long route: eat fresh and cooked foods. It may be really hard but it’s best for your health in the long run.

  • Fibre does the trick: Even novices in medical issues know that fibre consumption plays an important role in the digestive tract. It sucks up excess water in the bowels and keeps the digestive tract in great shape.

  • Consume probiotics: Not every bacteria is dangerous to the body - the digestive system in this case. Probiotics are those little bacteria that run around in the digestive tract, and eliminate leaky gut and chronic inflammation of the digestive tract.

  • Fermented foods such as yoghurts and supplements contain probiotics.

  • Chew your food to little pieces: While it may seem a great idea to either swallow or chew your food a little, your digestive tract will be paying dearly for it. Chew slowly and completely before you swallow.

  • Throw the bad habits out the window: Smoking, alcohol consumption, and late night snacking have been implicated to cause several health issues: even to your digestive tract.

  • Water does the magic: Water is life to your digestive tract - literally. It prevents constipation which is a common digestive issue. Apart from conventional water, you can get water from other drinks (except those that are caffeinated), fruits and vegetables.

  • Incorporate healthy fats: Healthy fats aid digestion and can be gotten from nuts, flax seed, and fatty fish such as salmon, sardine, etc.

  • Eat… but on time: Eating late does not provide sufficient time for digestion. Make eating early a habit.

  • Keep your stress levels to a minimum: Constipation, stomach ulcers, and IBS have been associated with stress. Stress releases hormones linked to fight-or-flight. Hence, your body thinks you are at rest which shuts down the activity of digestion.

  • Exercise is underrated: You are well aware of the benefits of exercise to the body right? But few know that exercise is of immense benefit to the digestive tract. It prevents constipation and bloating by aiding proper digestion of whatever food substance that’s consumed.

By implementing these few tips, you’ll be preventing the plethora of digestive issues that have become commonplace :)
